Work With Us

Come and join our team of vets, nurses and support staff

Why come work with us?

We are proud of our super friendly team and ‘family’ feel despite ongoing growth. Team members regularly organise outside work activities together and we have three sets of family members working with us. That’s not something that happens overnight and it has taken us a long time to build such a great team – our longest standing vet, Mike, has been working here since before practice owner Andrew was born(!) and we have some RVNs and reception who have been here for over 15 years and plenty crossing the 5 year mark. We train our nurses in house wherever possible and 3 of our RVNs trained with us; with another internal SVN about to start this year.

This reflects what we’re looking for in a candidate – when we hear about a potential applicant the first question is always ‘are they nice’ – we want friendly, confident and relaxed people who are keen to work with the team.

Our most recent team event was ziplining on the world’s fastest seated zip line which recently opened nearby. Unfortunately COVID put team events on hold but just prior to this we had also been Cocktail Making and to Escape Rooms as work outings.

We’re always keen to be improving and team meetings frequently result in real and immediate change to things like the diary, working practices and staff levels.

Why do we need more team members?

We’re proud that our team retention is really good – we haven’t had a permanent MRCVS or RVN leave us for over 5 years. All these roles are expansion based and not replacements. We are continually investing in facilities and the team and coming up on £1million total invested in buildings, facilities and people over the past 5 years alone. This is creating a great base for expansion – some people are moving to more specialised roles and we are keen to resume growing the business now COVID is slowing down.

Like everyone else right now, let’s be honest – we’re busy. But we don’t like it this way – you’re not ‘revenue generating units’ and our best times from business and staff perspective have been when there’s been LESS work and more time for every staff member to do their job better. That’s why we’re here – we’re hoping you can help us unlock our flow and join us in that flow.

What’s our location like?

Commutable from bright and vibrant Cardiff quite easily (several staff live in Cardiff), with the Brecon Beacons close to the North and easy access to beaches to the South. The M4 is 5 minutes away and trains can have you in London from Cardiff in 2.5 hours. We think it’s an amazing place to live and a hidden gem.

In summary:

  • Friendly, close knit team with active involvement in direction and development of practice and autonomy make day-to-day decisions to improve systems, processes and client engagement, plus exciting out of work activities and a balanced and fair rota (most vets <38hrs, most RVNs <34hrs)
  • We respect that everyone needs time to decompress and rest to be at their best. We don’t want to burn out any of our team members. So, we strive to be flexible and realistic in our time management.
  • We’re on a journey –  we believe Veterinary care is changing and that our role is to build the collaborative bond between our vets, our clients and their pets. You can be an instrumental part in this journey.

Current Job Openings

Experienced Vet

We’re looking to add at least one experienced vet to our existing team to assist with our ongoing growth.

  • Our standard rota is 38hrs/week (4 days/wk 0830-1830 last consult 1745 with catch up time built into the daily rota, plus 1 in 3 Saturday AM 9-12 with time off in lieu for Saturdays worked).
  • We find this rota works well, has a fixed day off and we take pride in extremely rarely to never allowing ‘rota creep’ to push those hours up. Most days our vets are leaving around 1815.
  • No Sole Charge, no OOH.
  • Salary range from 35k (1yr graduated) to 60k (10+ years graduated with a certificate in something). This is a scale which is roughly an extra 2.5k/yr experienced.
  • 5 weeks holiday plus Bank Holidays
  • We pay RCVS, VDS, BVA, BSAVA fees and have a generous CPD allowance which is flexible and unfixed but we usually say circa £3k/yr is no problem at all to hit.
  • We are open to discussing flexible/smaller rotas – one of our vet team already does a simple 2d/week rota instead of 4 and we are quite open to those wanting to do 2/3 days instead of 4.
  • Opportunity to be part of our friendly growing team with a great work/life balance and opportunities to grow and develop into a key part of our practice

Newly Graduated Vet

It’s been 4 years since our last new grad joined us (they’re still here!) and we feel we have the staff and rota levels to support another new graduate in the start to their career:

  • Rhys is our resident VetGDP adviser ready for you
  • Time set aside weekly inside your rota’d hours for review, discussion, planning all aspects of work life.
  • We’ll build a first year/18mth CPD plan around you to create your own personalised ‘graduate program’. We have non-clinical CPD options and can add clinical things tailored to you – in addition to working alongside experienced staff members with assigned mentoring and tutoring opportunities. Róisín can help get your bitch spays up to speed quicker than anyone else!
